The debate between deep ecology and ecofeminism revolves around a constant feature of both currents of thought. By focusing attention on a central figure of each movement—Arne Naess and Val Plumwood—this article attempts to show that the key proposition elaborated by the latter, that of a political solidarity with nature, can only be understood in polemical relation with the thesis of an identification between humans and non-humans, as defended by the theorist of deep ecology.
