This PhD research project is based on the observation of a jury building skills assessments for “validation practices of non-formal and informal learning” (VAE). The analysis of practical work experience is a collective and individual exercise based on the regular interactions of a peer group and the real involvement of actors: the aim is to analyze and make links between the professional situation and the personal perception of the situation experienced. In this paper, the analysis of practical work is, in fact, a way to help the jury reflect about their professional experience through cooperative discussion. The jury members become more aware of their experiences and new skills, and appropriate this new professional reality. The aim is to understand the meaning of the action in order to create new concepts and knowledge about the action and its complexity. A better understanding of the professional experience is achieved during this progressive process that allows the creation of concept references and professional identity. Results are positive and have a significant impact on the professionalization of the jury members.
