This article attempts to highlight some salient features of Victor Basch’s 1896 interpretation of Kantian aesthetics. To do so, it focuses on what he considers to be the central theme of aesthetic feeling, and particularly on the criticism he offers of Kant’s thesis on the possibility of a universal value of aesthetic judgment, a value that nevertheless remains only subjective (without objectivity). The article argues that Basch’s approach to this question testifies to the empiricist character of his ontological-epistemological options.
