What was the reality of Jesus’ spiritual development as a human being and how far did extend his freedom, his impeccability, his temptations, his trial in Gethsemane and on the cross, and the possibility that his Father rejected him? Contemporary christology “from below” has often set aside thomism to answer these questions. The A., in dialogue with Maritain, Lonergan and the exegetes of the gospels, takes up the question again: Jesus is not outside the events that affect him.
