N2  - The publication in June 2023 of the apostolic letter Sublimitas et miseria hominis, intended to mark the four hundredth anniversary of the birth of Blaise Pascal, has provoked numerous reactions. Nevertheless, we need to read it dispassionately and see how this text is both a testimony of admiration for a scholar with an edifying life, for the author of the Pensées, and a means for Pope Francis to reaffirm his own pastoral intuitions
