Today, the French political and general information media do not play their role. They keep losing readers and, as far as readership is concerned, France now ranks at the same level as Turkey. For the last ten years, the financial situation of French newspapers has kept deteriorating : despite a rather high price and an avalanche of public subsidies, only three out of the eight national dailies are profitable. Never before has the dependency of the French media on publicity announcers and on the large military-industrial groups (Largardère and Dassault) been so great, and their capacity of control so limited.
