Giraudoux saw in a rugby team a representative sample of society itself. Seventy-eight years later the idea might be considered correct, or at least stimulating, provided one admits that the sample has undergone considerable transformations, which, in the end, reflect quite well the transformations that have affected our ways of life and our actions, rugby appearing as a metaphor of society itself.
