In the light of their jurisprudence, the author elucidates the ways in which the European, Inter-American and African Courts of Human Rights control the constitution per se, as well as the interpreted document. The analysis is both nuanced and complex when, in addition to the jurisprudence of the collegial institutions, the separate opinions of the judges are taken into consideration.
