Contradictions of Public policy on food shops in a gentrified neighborhood of Paris
- 2021.
66
This article exposes the contradictions of the food retail policy in Goutte d’Or – Château Rouge (Paris). Its descriptive tools are, on the one hand, economic tools ignoring residents’ tastes, practices, and demands, and on the other hand, participatory bodies wherein middle-class residents frame their demands as universal. Hence two unintended consequences: new stores catering to the tastes and practices of middle-class residents, and stronger collective perceptions of the gentrification process.
