TY - BOOK AU - Romano,Hélène TI - The Fraternal Bond Put to the Test by Incest PY - 2012///. N1 - 23 N2 - When the spoken word reveals a situation of incest, it projects the family onto a different stage: that of the unintelligible, the unnamable, that of the medico-legal system, justice, and sometimes, the media. For each member of the family, it is an unprecedented crisis. Our aim is to envisage the repercussions of incest on the fraternal bond and what the sibling group can represent for the children involved, whether or not they are abused, both as a factor of vulnerability, but also as a source of creativity which may be able to help them gain distance from the traumatic impact of this fundamental transgression. In the first part of the article, we recall the dynamics of fraternal bonds, and then describe the possible consequences of incest on the fraternal process before addressing the question of treatment options. We will limit our discussion to situations in which the perpetrator is one of the parents and to cases where abuse is not committed by another sibling, since this situation would necessitate a specific analysis.
