This paper proposes a sociocultural perspective of psychological development in order to examine the way in which people construct an experience of temporality and are able to restore it when it is endangered. The main argument here is that this temporal activity takes place through the semiotic means that culture puts at our disposal. It is illustrated through the analysis of a case study: the war diary of a young English girl. This paper shows how social events provide landmarks that punctuate the passing of time. A person may refer to words or films to restore this temporality and ultimately even be able to play with the experience of time.
