<br/><br/> By randomly sampling the recipients of the public policies they study, randomized controlled trials allow the effects of these policies to be assessed and are considered by many economists as a gold standard. However, they are subject to multiple limitations, which weaken their validity and call for a wider use of mixed empirical designs that include qualitative methods.
