Elsewhere in the world it has developed in two main forms: “altruistic” surrogacy, where the surrogate just receives compensation; and “commercial” surrogacy, where she obtains remuneration. Surrogacy is however seldom conceived of as a kind of work, although such a conceptualization would contribute, from a feminist perspective, to combatting the exploitation of surrogates.
