Gift and Grace: A Family to Rebuild?
- 2008.
73
This text is a modest contribution to the construction of a research programme. Though it is already ten years old, it is no out of fashion. Notwithstanding Pitt-Rivers, anthropologists have neglected the theme of grace, nobody has used Mauss’ ideas about gift to study grace as gift. By which way, and how far is it possible to understand genesis, structure, and crisis of religion from the gift viewpoint? The core of difficulties seems to lay in the very intricate relationships of the gift and the sacred the author has discussed in a recent work (Le Symbolique et le sacré, La Découverte/MAUSS, Paris, 2008).
