Cooperation within the workplace cannot be understood through an accounting of personal benefits for at least two reasons : the first being that the donee is often ungrateful, the second being that the donor does not give to the donee but to a “third”. This third party is variable, be it the project, the profession or the mission for instance. Incidentally, contributing personal effort fosters a feeling of belonging. It is in the name of this feeling of belonging that workers become significantly more and better involved in their activities that what their working contract supposes.
