Prayers of deliverance seek to break the harmful spiritual bonds formed by sins or wounds suffered in a person’s life. These bonds are the result not only of sin or of demonic possession but are made possible by more or less conscious personal consent to evil. The process of deliverance is thus located at the heart of the relationship between the spiritual and psychological dimensions of the human person. By exposing the spiritual source of certain psychological wounds and blockages, the prayer of deliverance can indeed have a real psychological effect on the subject.
