On Some Cultural Representations of the Skin - 2006.

37

Representations of the skin have evolved over time and according to the disciplines treating them. Museum archives were consulted concerning burns (Maisons-Alfort and Honor? Fragonard), wax molds (Saint-Louis and Jules Baretta), as well as notions of hygiene (Georges Vigarello), cosmetics, biology (Laurent Misery), medicine, philosophy and epistemology (Francois Dagognet and Michel Serres). During our 'travels'?, concepts of porosity, limits, inside and outside, envelopes, and the container will be encountered.
