<br/><br/> After reminding us how the concept of rationalization was introduced in psychoa-nalysis, the author discusses the first Freudian approach which conceived of it as a “faulty un-derstanding” of unconscious impulses. The different usages of the concept by Freud are then analysed with a view to offering a topographical reading of rationalization.
