N1 - 58 N2 - In this article we examine the candidate selection process used by the French Front national party ( FN) for the 2014 municipal elections. As many individuals on the selection list appear to share the same last names, we suggest that the party relied heavily on candidates’ family networks. We argue that this could be attributable to the party’s organizational difficulties. Our hypotheses were confirmed by econometric analysis, without however excluding two other potential explanations: the effect of stigma on FN recruitment and the preference of  FN candidates for keeping competition in the family.
