The Middle East in a Troubled State Eight months after the official end of the war in Iraq, the country is faced with general chaos and profound divisions. In dealing with the American strategic re-deployment in the region, the question of the true motivations of their intervention in Iraq may be raised. The search for oil is no valid hypothesis, since the relationships between the United States and Saudi Arabia have never been so good. The second hypothesis is the geo-strategic position of Iraq. Indeed, an American presence in this country would give the United States the opportunity not only to secure energy roads, but also to contain any tentative attack coming from the states of the region and directed against their Israeli ally.
