With the aim of improving the assessment of specific semantic disorders in the early stages of neurodegenerative cognitive diseases, we present a new tool of famous people recognition, naming and access to semantic knowledge. The Gretop battery has been developed with the following objectives: creating a tool that is easy to use, realistic in its execution time, computerized, standardized on a large number of controls, assessing the semantic access from visual or verbal input, and allowing precise calculation of the amount of semantic information retrieved. The results presented in this article show that the battery has a good internal consistency, both faces and names subtests are balanced in terms of difficulty and familiarity of the items, and the norms have been collected from a large number of control subjects. In addition, the presentation of eight clinical cases tested with the battery illustrates the different cognitive profiles that can be identified and demonstrates the high degree of specificity of this tool. Altogether, the construction of the tool, the norms, as well as their specificity, demonstrates that Gretop is a valuable tool for the early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.
