The latter’s championing of psychology resulted in the formulation of principles, both methodological (introspection and the reliance on medical studies) and scientific (the concepts of reflex and motion), that Matter and Memory used somewhat freely. And with the project of a “positive metaphysics” that he promoted between 1901 and 1904, Bergson, at the Collège de France, could take over the “positive”, after Ribot neutered the term
