In this note, we offer an introduction to the economic analysis of multi-sided markets, i.e. markets characterized by cross network externalities. Building on a small set of recent contributions, we approach first a definition of multi-sidedness. Then, optimal pricing by multi-sided platforms is studied. Last, we discuss the implications of multi-sidedness for the implementation of competition policy. JEL Codes – L13.
