TY - BOOK AU - Van Pevenage,Isabelle AU - Trabut,Loïc AU - Kempeneers,Marianne TI - The interplay of proximities around elderly parents : analysis of a survey on family solidarity and ageing in Quebec PY - 2024///. N1 - 15 N2 - This article deals with the links between different spatial morphologies of families in Montreal and relational and emotional proximities, as well as with the articulation of the various proximities in the exercise of solidarity around elderly parents. Using a bottom-up hierarchical classification based on a correspondence analysis, a typology of families was created with quantitative data from the Quebec Biographies and Solidarities survey (n = 502). The analysis of the articulation of proximities and practices of solidarity around elderly parents was carried out on the basis of data from the quantitative and qualitative part of the survey which includes 24 qualitative interviews. The analyses revealed three types of families characterised by the geographical distribution of siblings and elderly parents, as well as family size. These families show different relationships to proximities, but also distinctive modes of organisation around the elderly parents. Considered in association with each other, the various proximities reveal links between family geographies and family logics to support elderly parents. If geographic and relational proximities are necessary, they are not sufficient to provide daily support to elderly parents and emotional proximity is neither necessary nor sufficient. Furthermore, we can see that a synergy of these proximities simplifies the organization of support for elderly parents UR - https://shs.cairn.info/journal-retraite-et-societe-2023-2-page-41?lang=en&redirect-ssocas=7080 ER -
