N1 - 74 N2 - Aristotle is the most quoted author in Aquinas’ Commentary on Peter Lombard’s Sentences. But what are we make of this information with regards to Aquinas’ knowledge of the Aristotelian works? The examination of the quotations which are taken from Aristotle’s Metaphysics in the Commentary on Book I of the Sentences provides an analysis of the way in which Aquinas reads, understands and makes use of Aristotle at the beginning of his career. By drawing the attention to the historical and methodological questions that such a topic gives rise to, some significant examples are brought forward in order to show that the young Aquinas is already very well acquainted with Aristotle’s Metaphysics UR - https://shs.cairn.info/journal-revue-des-sciences-philosophiques-et-theologiques-2007-4-page-651?lang=en&redirect-ssocas=7080 ER -
