<br/><br/> Based on a famous dedication by Borges, this paper examines the issue of the gift in relation to Lacan’s approach to the role of the real in inter-human exchanges. This paper discusses a materiality of the gift which, beyond the signifier, is related to what is not meant to be given, thus evoking a materialism of the impossible.
