Doctors and television

Health issues literally flooded television screens with the advent of Sars-CoV-2, the cause of the COVID-19 pandemic. The exceptional nature of both the management of the pandemic itself and its treatment by the media makes it an important time marker in the history of medicine and the place of doctors on television. Formerly characterized by educational and informative medical programs, medicine has become part of a medical-media-political scene, following an explosion of TV content due in large part to the existence of 24-hour news channels. What will be the rightful place of these same doctors in the French audiovisual landscape after the COVID crisis? Has public confidence been maintained, and if not, how can it be restored in an increasingly competitive media and medical landscape? These are all crucial issues to ensure that medicine on TV does not hinder doctors’ individual relationships with their patients, who are increasingly disoriented by the range of health care services on offer.
