<br/><br/> The French social system was built on the great principles of modernity: individualism, the ideology of progress, materialism and productivism, and the nation state. That system has largely failed: solidarity based on the “social contract” has turned out to be abstract and inefficient. New forms of solidarity are appearing that are more consistent with a contemporary community ideal.
