Based on the ethnography of a contemporary communalist experience, this article aims to question the over-systematic use of the notion of « resistance » in the analysis of phenomena of social contestation and critique. The experience in question is an utopian collective action involving various individuals who have previously made the choice to change their lives. Neither confrontational nor demanding, it is nonetheless shaped by logics of conflictualisation from which emerges a political form in itself: Refusal. The specificity of the latter is certainly to offer those who express it to envisage other possibilities within the dominant social order.
