Does the creation of an experimental artistic class in an “educational priority zone” lower-secondary school lead to changes in its culture? Does it change the day-to-day practice among general teaching staff? This study shows that teachers' work is very much structured by the culture of the school and by the requirement to transmit written knowledge following a controlled framework. However, timetable reorganization, along with a more personal approach to learning, promoting respect and recognition, did represent a change in day-to-day practice, and did engender greater motivation in pupils and additional job satisfaction for teachers.
