The violence of the drawings, intended for the general public, corresponded to what people were witnessing on a large scale. Founded on January 23, 1915 by Henri Maigrot, known as “Henriot,” the weekly newspaper’s title was originally À la Baïonnette!, and remained so for twenty-three issues. It paved the way for similar graphic productions to be introduced into the satirical press. It was as though the national divisions inscribed in the pre-war divergences had to suddenly disappear in a sort of iconic synthesis.
