N2  - Cet article a pour objectif de comprendre les bouleversements contemporains, et les enjeux d’innovation associés, auxquels fait face Turbomeca, fabricant français de turbines à gaz et leader mondial dans cette discipline dont le siège est situé à Bordes (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) depuis 1942.L’étude de la naissance de la turbine à gaz aéronautique en Angleterre permet de découvrir cet objet qui est au centre des bouleversements que connaît Turbomeca aujourd’hui, mais aussi de comprendre les conditions d’apparition d’une innovation radicale. Une relecture approfondie de l’histoire de Turbomeca au travers de l’évolution de ses capacités d’innovation radicale depuis sa création jusqu’en 2009, qui nous fait remonter aux études du fondateur, donne un matériau très riche pour saisir l’évolution des capacités de conception de l’entreprise au regard de l’évolution de ses moteurs.Cette généalogie permet de comprendre et caractériser la situation d’innovation radicale contemporaine de Turbomeca face aux nouveaux enjeux environnementaux. L’entreprise prend alors conscience de la dualité des nouveaux défis de conception innovante avec des bouleversements à design constant, causés par des facteurs internes ou externes qui imposent des objectifs de performance en rupture avec le modèle de conception dominant, et des bouleversements à design non constant, dont les facteurs internes ou externes imposent des changements modifiant les attributs – valeurs, identités des objets, modèle d’affaires – du modèle de conception dominant; Origins and adaptations of a dominant model of design: 70 years of history of the conception of the gas turbine at TurbomecaThis article aims to understand current changes and associated innovation challenges faced by Turbomeca, the French manufacturer of gas turbines which is world leader in its sector.Through the story of the genesis of the gas turbine in England we discover this object which is at the center of the upheavals faced by Turbomeca today, but also understand the conditions for the emergence of such a radical innovation. A detailed analysis of the history of Turbomeca takes us back to the initial research work of its founder and examines its evolving organizational capability for radical innovation up until 2009, providing rich material for understanding the evolution of design capabilities of the company in relation to the evolution of the engines.This genealogy allows us to characterize the radical approach to innovation adopted by Turbomeca to address emerging environmental issues. The company has developed an appreciation of the dual nature of the challenges of innovative design. On the one hand, it faces constant design changes caused by internal or external factors that impose breakthrough performance on objects within the dominant design. On the other hand, non-constant design changes also appear with internal or external factors imposing changes that modify the attributes – values, identities, objects, business model – of the dominant design
