N2  - RésuméL’idéalisation de la figure du « vrai marin », toujours professionnel, a accompagné le développement de la voile de plaisance depuis la seconde moitié du xixe siècle, navigation maritime de loisir en mal de légitimité vis-à-vis des marines professionnelles. Plusieurs figures du professionnel sont convoquées dont le marin pêcheur, l’officier de marine et le coureur au large. Cet article analyse les liens que l’on peut faire entre ces figures du « vrai marin » et les problématiques de la plaisance contemporaine; Amators and the True SailorThe idealisation of the figure of the “true sailor”, always a professional, has gone hand in hand with the development of pleasure sailing since the second half of the 19th century, even professional sailors developed reluctance towards leisure sea yachting. A selection of professional figures is studied here, including the fisherman, the naval officer and the ocean racer.
