Boredom, a Privileged Operator for a Clinical Approach to Social Cohesion
- 2008.

Boredom is at the intersection of a unique psychological organization and a structure of demands linked to the social context; as such, it constitutes a privileged operator for a clinical approach to social cohesion. Being both an individual mechanism of defense and an institutional symptom of social malaise, it manifests a subjective dissatisfaction where the word is empty. It is also a way for the subject to resist the contemporary social prescription for activism and the accumulation of objects of consumption. In this sense, boredom conveys an ethical position of the subject, who preserves the unconscious wish by suspending it temporarily.
