Psychoanalytical Praxis, a Poetics of Improvisation
- 2016.

We propose to analyze the link between theory and practice in treatment through the concept of improvisation. We will try to show that improvisation is not a simple synonym of Freudian free association: actually, it intervenes at several levels in treatment, and we will try to measure its relationship with pleasure (jouissance). The subject in analysis can, through improvisation, “transform” the traumatic pleasure of the letter. But how does it pass from traumatic fixation to surprise? And what role does repetition play in the process? The study of certain developments in jazz will accompany escort our questions. The idea of ex nihilo creation is called into crisis by jazz, and bypassed by the creation of “poetics”: What remains for psychoanalysis?
