- 2011.

The issue at the heart of this article is to understand how to resist being manipulated, if the problem should present itself. Based on a simple situation, the ploy known as « the golden ring », two types of parameters will be studied. One is the information available to the potential victim about whether or not the interaction proposed to him is a manipulative one. The other is the type of relation he/she will establish, whether taking distance or accepting a fusional relationship. We note that information is a parameter which does not escape manipulation, but which, when combined with taking distance within the interaction, proves to be a powerful and essential factor in the capacity to resist. On the contrary, fusion with the manipulator, whether or not one is aware of the behavior, and no matter what reason one gives oneself for accepting it, proves to be a powerful factor in accepting manipulation.
