N1 - 24 N2 - The aim of this article is to highlight the function of a specific mediation object made by a patient who suffers from melancholia, during the course of a weekly sewing workshop, in a psychiatric day hospital for adults. The workshop activity involves the making of a three dimensional object, out of fabric’s offcuts sawn together. Starting with these offcuts or “rejects”, we will see how the patient crafts an object, which then permits a different relationship with the Real. This object set several phases: from the state of waste, it became scrap and then relic. We propose that the production under transfer of the sewn object can give rise to a temporal, chronological reading as well as to a Borromean, logical reading. We learnt from this experiment that the fabricated object creates a social link, since it may be passed on and thus has a therapeutic effect.
