<br/><br/> Barbara LOYER, Identités et pouvoir local: le cas de la revendication d’un département Pays basque. Il existe une revendication pour que le département français des Pyrénées-Atlan-tiques soit divisé en deux avec une partie qui deviendrait département Pays basque et une autre partie département Béarn. Elle soulève des problèmes. D’une part un mouvement nationaliste basque revendique un territoire comprenant quatre provinces espagnoles et le Pays basque français tel qu’il existerait s’il formait un département. D’autre part Bayonne, qui serait la préfecture de ce département Pays basque, faisait autrefois partie de l’ensemble linguistique et culturel gascon. Cette dimension de l’identité historique locale est aujourd’hui rappelée par ceux qui s’opposent aux stratégies visant à faire de Bayonne une ville essentiellement basque. L’enjeu du débat est le rapport qui pourrait s’établir à l’avenir entre les identités locales et les territoires politiques en France. The revendication, which would separate the French county Pyrénées-Atlantiques in two with the Basque county on one side and the Béarn county on the other, creates an issue. On one hand, the Basque county has a nationalist demand for a territory that would include four Spanish provinces and the French Basque county as it would be if it were a county of its own. On the other hand, Bayonne would be the main administrative office of the Basque county, which was in the past part of the Gascon linguistic and cultural circle. This issue of local historic identity is today reminded by those who object to making Bayonne a town mostly Basque. This opposition shows how the relation between local identities and political territories could be established in the future in France.
