<br/><br/> Pour nombre de missionnaires, l’Iran safavide semble offrir la possibilité d’étendre la foi chrétienne aux chiites iraniens car ils sont sensibles, contrairement à leurs voisins ottomans, à la « raison ». Pour ce faire, il suffirait de les débarrasser des superstitions et des erreurs imputables à leur religion comme autant de scories indésirables. Toutefois, une connaissance plus approfondie du terrain permet à certains voyageurs de mieux appréhender le chiisme duodécimain, avec ses rites et ses croyances spécifiques.  According to missionaries, Safavid Iran seems to offer the possibility to extend Christian faith to the Iranian Shiites because they are sensitive (as opposed to their Ottoman neighbours) to « reason ». In order to achieve this, they only have to get rid of superstitions and errors which can be attributed to their religion as if they were unwanted slags. However, a deeper knowledge of the field allows some travellers to gain more insight into duodecimal Shiism, with its rites and specific beliefs.
