- 2020.

This article aims to rethink the introduction of the gold coin in Gaul in the third century BC and to suggest ways of thinking about the function of the first Gaulish gold issues, the “imitations of the stater with types of Philip II of Macedonia”, and the question of the issuing authorities. Between imitation and innovation, this paper studies the beginning of Gaulish gold coins in the context of Celtic societies in the fourth and third centuries BC, in close correlation with the Greek-Macedonian issues which constitute models for a large number of Gaulish gold coinages.
