After the military revolution of the beginning of the XVIth century, the lively reflection about the military arts generated new and very different conceptions of the discipline. In a field of literature where the forces of career and social mobility played a major role, the knowledge inherited from Antiquity and the innovations introduced by the Moderns coexisted, bound by new types of relationships which the issue of espionage allows to illustrate.
