N2  - Dans son article de 1981 Psychological Birth and Psychological Catastrophe, Frances Tustin parle de l’importance de l’intégration des différents événements dominés par les sensations qui se produisent dans l’expérience que le bébé fait de son environnement, à la fois avant et après sa naissance. Elle attire notre attention sur une composante sensorielle primitive propre au travail de cette intégration précoce. Alors que Melanie Klein a souligné l’intégration du bon et du mauvais sein au cours de la position dépressive vers six mois, Tustin met l’accent sur une intégration plus précoce des sensations de dur et de doux, qui survient avant même l’établissement de la position schizo-paranoïde et qui correspond à la dépression primaire à laquelle Meltzer fait référence. Alors que l’on a prêté plus d’attention au rôle de la mère dans cette période critique précoce, Tustin prend également en considération l’importance du rôle du père. Dans cet article, c’est le rôle du père en tant que protecteur de la mère – et par conséquent protecteur du bébé ou même du fœtus – que je souhaite discuter au point de rencontre essentiel des développements émotionnel, mental et physique, en me fondant sur du matériel clinique extrait de l’analyse d’une femme enceinte que j’appelle Chloé; In Frances Tustin’s 1981 paper on Psychological Birth and Psychological Catastrophe, she discusses the importance of integrating the various sensations-dominated happenings, encountered in the infant’s experience of the environment, both before and after birth. She called our attention to a primary sensorial component inherent in the task of early integration. Although Klein highlighted the integration of the experience of the good breast and bad breast taking place in the depressive position around six months of age, Tustin stressed the earlier primary integration of the sensations of hard and soft occurring even before the onset of the paranoïd-schizoïd position, and consistent with what Meltzer alluded to as a primary depressive position. Although there has been much attention paid to the role of the mother in this critical early phase, Tustin also considered the importance of the father’s role as well. In this paper I would like to discuss the role of the father in sheltering the mother – and consequently the infant, or even the fetus – during this significant juncture of emotional, mental and physical development, using some clinical material from the analysis of one pregnant analysand whom I refer to as Chloe
