Considering the “media uproar” that followed the broadcast, on a national television channel, of a report on radical Islam in France, this article looks at the controversies that surrounded the city of Roubaix. Our analysis of the regional press discourse in this area allowed us to identify a phenomenon we call “media mistreatment." This article examines how the newspaper in question, while also partaking in the coverage of the controversy, came under fire, inter alia, for its political underpinnings. In the closing section, beyond pointing out the status and role of the image in its relationship to the “truth” in journalism, the article takes on the question of the “journalists’ social responsibility,” in this case, in the face of media trial of a city.
