N2  - The Egyptian campaign was an expedition on a scale never before attempted, organised in less than three months, from the official decision to the departure of the convoys. But how could 289 transports escorted by 55 warships be secretly moved with all their men, weapons, supplies and equipment? What resources were deployed before departure and on arrival in Egypt? What strategy was used to mislead England about the real destination of the expedition? Was a logistical failure still possible, despite the planning that left no room for the slightest unforeseen event? The meticulously prepared logistical organisation was fraught with pitfalls from the moment Malta was taken. In Egypt, it was confronted with unknown territory and a climate that was unsuitable for the equipment and uniforms worn by the soldiers. River navigation, a shortage of men and illness were all factors in the logistical machinery, which came to a standstill barely a month after the expedition’s arrival. Bonaparte had to improvise to overcome all the obstacles in his path; La campagne d’Égypte est une expédition d’une envergure jamais tentée auparavant, organisée en moins de trois mois, de la décision officielle à l’appareillage des convois. Mais comment déplacer secrètement 286 transports escortés par 55 navires de guerre avec les hommes, les armes, les vivres, et tout l’équipement ? Quels sont les moyens déployés avant de partir, puis à l’arrivée en Égypte ? Quelle stratégie est mise en œuvre pour tromper l’Angleterre sur la destination réelle de l’expédition ? Un échec logistique est-il malgré tout possible, malgré une anticipation qui ne laisse aucune place au moindre aléa imprévu ? L’organisation logistique, minutieusement préparée, se révèle dès la prise de Malte semée d’embûches ; elle est confrontée en Égypte à un territoire inconnu, à un climat non adapté aux équipements et aux uniformes des militaires. La navigation fluviale, le manque d’hommes, la maladie sont autant de grains de sable dans une mécanique logistique qui subit son premier coup d’arrêt à peine un mois après l’arrivée de l’expédition. Il faudra donc improviser pour parvenir à surmonter tous les obstacles qui se dressent devant Bonaparte
