Pourtant, dans les sociétés postmodernes, le pouvoir est décentré et la politisation est surtout le fait de la société civile. La mondialisation actuelle accentue ce décentrement. Elle présente à la fois un aspect universaliste et un aspect protectionniste. Le registre de la subjectivité a été transformé par l’ensemble de ce processus et est atteint par le malaise. J. Birman dresse une cartographie du malaise : il se manifeste en particulier par le trauma et la dissémination de l’humiliation. L’auteur se demande à la fin du texte si la construction de souverainetés au pluriel ne permettrait pas l’affirmation de chacun et de tous.  Since the French Revolution, sovereignty has been given to the French people, epitomized by the Nation-state. However, in our post-modern societies, the power is decentralized and politization has mainly become a civil society issue. In presenting both universalistic and protectionist attributes, globalization aggravates this phenomenon. The domain of subjectivity has been reshaped by this whole process and is now in crisis. In this paper, Joël Birman proposes a cartography of the crisis : it mainly manifests itself through the trauma and the dissemination of the humiliation. The author concludes by wondering if the development of these plural sovereignties would allow for both individual and collective affirmation.
