Cet article analyse la première expérience de fabrication ex-nihilo de l’homme providentiel, avec une profusion d’images et de mises en scène qui constituent un moment exceptionnel dans l’histoire de la propagande politique républicaine. En deux ans, Boulanger et son entourage auront su façonner l’image d’un sauveur charismatique capable d’incarner à la fois la Revanche et la réforme en profondeur du système parlementaire. Ce processus d’habilitation au désir collectif, qui commence en 1886, se déroule en deux étapes : celle de l’adéquation, qui voit le ministre se positionner en correspondance avec les attentes de l’opinion ; puis celle de l’incarnation proprement dite, qui le pousse à la rencontre des Français, afin de conquérir le pouvoir; French archetype of populist savior, he enter the political scene at a moment when France goes through an economic, social and confidence crisis towards the ruling elite of the Republic. Within two years, Boulanger and his entourage succeed in shaping the image of a charismatic savior able to embody both the Revenge and a deep reform of the parliamentarian system.
