N2  - RésuméDe 1570 – date à laquelle le pape Pie V fulmine une bulle pour appeler au renversement d’Élisabeth d’Angleterre – jusqu’en 1610, le tyrannicide est essentiellement une pratique catholique, dont sont victimes Guillaume le Taciturne, Henri III et Henri IV et à laquelle Élisabeth et Jacques Ier échappent de justesse. Pourtant une tradition historiographique dominante attribue aux protestants (après 1572) la paternité de cette doctrine. Pourquoi ? Telle est la question soulevée ici; From 1570 onwards, when Pius V called for the deposition of queen Elizabeth, tyrannicide has been mainly a Catholic concern leading up to the assassination of Henri IV in 1610. William the Silent, Henri III had in turn been its victims. Elizabeth I and James I were also targeted. In spite of all evidence, the prevailing historiography has attributed to Protestants the origin of that tradition. These assumptions should in turn be critically examined
