N2  - La collection Terninck rassemble un nombre important d’objets d’époque romaine qui proviennent essentiellement de l’Artois (céramique, verrerie, tabletterie, bronze). L’examen d’un manche de canif en os décoré d’une scène de chasse, découvert à Arras en 1864, a non seulement permis la redécouverte d’une pièce peu courante, pouvant être considérée comme luxueuse, mais également d’aborder les problèmes de diffusion liés à ce type d’objet. En effet, l’homogénéité stylistique entre le manche d’Arras et d’autres exemplaires mis au jour en France, en Suisse ou encore en Grande-Bretagne corrobore l’hypothèse d’une production issue d’un même atelier. Le thème décoratif de la chasse est quant à lui largement répandu durant l’époque romaine et un même motif est indifféremment utilisé par les tabletiers, les potiers et les métallurgistes; Patrice HERBIN, A Folding Knife With a Zoomorphic Ornementation From the Terninck Collection. The Terninck collection gathers an important number of Roman period artefacts which originate mostly from the Artois (potteries, glassware, fancy goods, bronze). The study of a folding knife’s handle in bone ornemented with a hunting scene, discovered in Arras in 1864, not only led to the re-discovery of a rather uncommon item, that can be considered as a luxury artefact, but also to tackle the problems of diffusion of that type of product. Indeed, the stylistic proximity between the Arras knife handle and other models found in France, Switzerland or in Great-Britain corroborates the assumption of a production in a single workshop. The hunting scene pattern is itself widely spread in Roman times and a similar scene is indifferently used by tablet makers, potters and metalworkers
