<br/><br/> L’UEO créée en 1948 pour faire face à la menace soviétique et qui fut vite supplantée par l’Otan, connut un rebond dans les années 1990 avant de s’effacer face à l’élargissement de l’Alliance atlantique à l’Est. L’UE, elle-même, accrut ses responsabilités dans le champ des relations extérieures. Autant d’éléments aboutissant à la dissolution de l’UEO en 2010.  The WEU, created in 1948 to face the Soviet threat and rapidly supplanted by NATO, recovered a little in the 1990s before fading again as the Atlantic Alliance was extended to the East and the EU increased its responsibilities regarding external relations. Together, these factors led to the dissolution of the WEU in 2010.
