N2  - La France a joué un rôle majeur dans la montée en puissance de l’Otan, sous la IVe République. De fait, elle était le principal pilier militaire européen. Ainsi, le maréchal Juin, AFCENT, disposait d’un commandement opérationnel majeur sous les ordres du SACEUR. Mais la question nucléaire allait accroître les difficultés; France played a major role in the build-up of NATO under the Fourth Republic. It was the main European military pillar and as such, under Marshal Juin as AFCENT, it held a major command responsible to SACEUR. Despite that, nuclear issues led to increasing difficulties
